Dev log 2 - shop items and placement


Hey everyone, thought I'd share a new update regarding Before Arthur...

I've added a new feature that allows the player to decorate their manors to change things up and impress visiting subjects.



How the system works:

  • The player can buy items at their local shop or find special items while exploring the world
  • The player can place these items inside their manors, changing their position, rotation and color options.
  • Depending on the item they may give you special bonuses when your subjects come to court, or they may impress visiting dignitaries.
  • Some items have special uses, for example beds allow the player to sleep, tables allow eating / feasting and thrones allow holding court
  • Some items can be upgraded, while others can be replaced with better items from the shop as they become available. Your shop's items are also tied to your kingdom's current tech level, so shop item availability will change during the game.


On that note I've started working on the kingdom research UI and scripts and hope to have another update on this shortly. What I'm thinking right now is that the tech tree will be broken into different sections so for example one tech tree will deal with weapons and military, while another may deal with kingdom laws and punishments, or farming, etc. The player will be able to research real world technologies spanning from the dark ages until the landing of the Vikings.

The amount of tech research points a kingdom gets each day will affect the speed of research and this can be increased by building monasteries, scriptoriums or by keeping old roman buildings active to inspire your subjects.
